Project 2006 - Steaming Bay
Loop
|
Since the concept was
first put to the members about 18 months ago. A
request was made to improve the flow of locomotive passenger haulage
and
enabling crippled locomotives to be replaced on a quicker turn around
during
the busier periods at the Show Ground.

|
The design work and track surveying
for the first stage was completed at the end of 2005 and procurement
of materials for fabrication was sourced during early February of
this year. Click

The working group then called a quick response meeting in order
to make a start on cutting the track. This was given and a hacksaw
was soon found.
We are now into the spring and the first stage of erection of
the turnout is now in place and it is anticipated that the main
line will soon be up and running again.

First Stage Nearly Complete |
Once the main line is operational
the working group will continue with assembling the loop, and with
sufficient fabrication already completed and available it will not
be long before the steaming bay will be serviced by the loop. For
the second phase, it is anticipated, that at the end of the running
season (Mid September) the main line will be cut again in order that
another set of |
|
fabricated turnouts can be set in concrete. This will
then allow locomotives and passenger cars to come off at the station
end and a new train connected up at leisure to a standby or rostered
loco.
